The government organize exams, that up to 2013 consisted in 6 exams, three written and three oral for history, geography, art and culture of the specific city (in my case Venice), and also laws in tourism and two foreign languages.
To obtain the abilitation it was fundamental to have a degree and pass the public exam with the averagemark of 7/10. The average time for the peparation of this exam is of 8 hours a day for 3 years.
Luckily I passed the exam at the first go, but not for everyone it’s the same. It’s then easy to understand how important it is to be determined and passionate.
It’s easy to recognize the authorized guides because they have to wear the official badge, and be legally registered and publish their prices.
