The Church of Frari and the Scuola Grande di San Rocco

Tour Description

Once fittingly called Ca’ Granda, the imposing Franciscan Gothic church with a simple and crisp architectural exterior, reveals an interior adorned by artwork of incomparable value, sculptures such as the San Giovanni Battista by Donatello and paintings such as the Assunta by Tiziano, that guide us through centuries of art evolution from the Byzantine empire to the Renaissance.

The tour continues with a visit to the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, often termed the Venetian Sistine Chapel, entirely decorated with the majestic canvas paintings by Tintoretto, artistic genius and man of deep faith, defined by art historian Vasari “the most tremendous mind that the art of painting has every known”.
