The Palazzo Ducale was the political heart of Venice, seat of the Government of the Republic of Venice, as well as the private residence of the Doge. This visit will allow us to discover the structure, peculiarities and building techniques of Venetian palaces, as well as the complex organization and different roles within the Venetian State.
The visit continues with the Basilica of Saint Mark, born as the Doge’s private chapel and golden mausoleum for the remains of Saint Mark the Evangelist; this precious architectural gem is a witness to the tight bond between Venice and the Eastern Lands, in particular with Constantinople, of which Venice was considered the cultural heir.
