In the past, horses were allowed in Venice, but the mode of transportation par excellence was not the horse-drawn carriage, but the magnificent gondola, elegant wooden boat with a streamlined shape and flat bottom, today a universal symbol of the city. It is built and repaired in a specialized dockyard called squero, which we will visit as well as the remèr‘s workshop, where wooden oars and oarlocks are created. For the more adventurous, the tour will end with a traditional Venetian rowing lesson, to get the full experience and truly live the lagoon as the Venetian gondoliers do.
Extra expenses: squero entry fee, Venetian rowing lesson
